Concert FAQs
Every question we're commonly asked about the concert, answered in one place. Can't find what you're after? Our contact details are at the bottom.
Deciding to do the concert
Does my child have to be in the concert?
No, the concert is completely optional. There's no consequence for choosing not to take part, and every child is taught the routine either way. We just need to know whether to expect your dancer on the day, so please let us know your decision.
What if my child does more than one class?
They'll perform once for every class they attend, and then join the whole-school finale at the end. This means one hired costume is required per class, with the exception of Star classes and Monday and Wednesday 3.30 Hip Hop, who all perform in their SUPERSTARS uniform.
How do I confirm my child is taking part?
Pay the concert fee via Humanitix to confirm your dancer's spot. If you know your child won't be taking part, please email us so we can take you off the concert mailing list.
What you'll pay & wear
How much does it cost to take part?
There are a few separate costs:
- Concert fee $80 + booking fee. This helps cover running the show, backstage care, and a digital copy of the professional recording.
- Costume hire $50 for first costume and every additional costume is $40 thereafter.
- Uniform & shoes — see the costumes & uniform page for the full breakdown.
Full detail is on the costumes & uniform page.
What is the SUPERSTARS uniform?
Every performer wears the SUPERSTARS uniform. For Star classes and Monday and Wednesday 3.30 Hip Hop, it's worn as their performance costume. For all other classes it's worn to and from the concert (since the hired costume is returned afterward) and for the finale.
Everyone needs a SUPERSTARS T-shirt. Boys wear their own plain black shorts. Girls in afternoon classes choose one bottom — pink skirt, SUPERSTARS shorts, or SUPERSTARS tights. Every item, including shoes, can be bought at SUPERSTARS. See the costumes & uniform page for prices and the full shoe-by-style list.
Does my child need a costume?
It depends on the class:
- Monday and Wednesday 3.30 Hip Hop, and Baby, Tiny & Pre-Prep Stars no hired costume; they perform in the SUPERSTARS uniform.
- High School Musical Theatre will wear their Charlie and the Chocolate Factory costumes.
- All other classes, a hired costume is required for each class they are performing in.
Where can I buy the uniform, shoes and accessories?
Uniform items are available at the Mt Carmel or Carina venues on your class days. If you're at St Elizabeths, email us and we'll arrange to have items sent out.
I have tan performance stockings from a previous year — do I need new ones?
If your child is in an Acro or Lyrical class - YES, you must have our new FOOTLESS stockings this year. If your child is in Jazz/Tap/Musical Theatre/Hip Hop - NO. If you've kept your tan stockings and they have no rips or tears, you're very welcome to reuse them — no need to buy a new pair.
How do I pay the concert fee?
The concert fee is paid online via Humanitix.
Coming to watch the show
How do I buy tickets to watch the concert?
Audience tickets are sold separately via TryBooking, and go on sale later in the year, we'll give you plenty of notice. All tickets are $35.
Your concert fee is not your ticket to watch, that's a separate purchase.
Does my performer need a ticket?
No, performers don't need a ticket, as they're backstage with our team.
What about a young child sitting on my lap?
If you're bringing a little one who'll sit on your lap, you don't need to buy them a seat. Seating is allocated, though, so buy the number of seats you'd actually like to sit in.
Will there be photos and video?
Yes, professional photographers are there on the day, and the whole show is professionally recorded. A digital copy of the recording is included in your concert fee.
How the day runs
Where is the concert held?
At the Chandler Theatre, in the Sleeman Sports Complex, Chandler.
Is there a rehearsal?
Yes. There's one stage rehearsal, held on the real stage immediately before the concert on the same day. Exact times are confirmed a few weeks out. All students arrive in their full SUPERSTARS uniform.
Full detail is on the rehearsal & backstage page.
What do we wear to arrive?
All students arrive in their full SUPERSTARS uniform, with any hired costumes in the plastic bag provided the week before.
My child is nervous, can I come backstage?
We understand, but there are no parents allowed backstage, it's how we keep every child safe and the day calm. We hire plenty of helpers to look after each class. Plus we have a number of activities and colouring-in to keep them occupied throughout the day.
See the rehearsal & backstage page for how drop-off, care and pickup work.
Does my child need to wear makeup?
Makeup is completely optional, never compulsory. If your child would like a little for the stage, a touch of lip gloss and some mascara to open their eyes looks lovely under the lights. Our tip: Maybelline Matte Colourstay in "Romantic" it stays put and doesn't come off and we have it for sale for $15 with all your uniforms.
Our youngest stars
My child is only three, is that too young?
Not at all. Our youngest SUPERSTARS perform every year, with their teacher right beside them on stage the whole time. If they get up and simply wave, that's a win, for a lot of families it's the highlight of the year. But, you know your child best, only you can make the call, whatever you choose is the right one.
There's a whole page for our littlest dancers: Baby, Tiny & Pre-Prep Stars.
What about toileting and nappies?
Please take your child to the toilet right before you leave home. Our designated toilet helpers are on hand during the day if they need to go. If there's any doubt about toilet training, please pop a nappy on. (But note, we're not able to do regular nappy changes backstage.)
How are the little ones kept happy backstage?
There's a fair bit of waiting backstage, so our carers keep the little ones busy and settled with colouring, activities and little games until it's their turn to shine.
